Far from dull, the book is a great read about how the industry limped through the 50's and 60's and ended up Have to keep the good natured rivalry alive. Actually, the Late, GREAT PRR's 1947 or 1948 Annual Report stated that the Railroad PAID MORE in taxes in the State of New Jersey than they took in in revenue in that state. Obviously, they had to get thru New Jersey to enter the GREAT State of Pennsylvania. By that time (1948) the railroads were patching and piecing themselves back together after being all but destroyed by taxation and Deferred Maintainence due to WWII. Since NO repairs were allowed, ALL income was taxable and the U S Gov't took every penny they could get.
