Gents...

It would be best for Don T. to answer the above question. However,
not being shy, my guess is that the typical AF-oriented guy will not
see any difference between the PS-1 and the other box car(s) SHS has
already produced. Thus, why should SHS make a product that
essentially duplicates an existing product -- at least in the eyes of
90% of their customers? Would it not seem logical that something
dramatically different (such as a tank car) would sell better than a
near duplication of a similar box car?

Just for the record, NYC Pacemaker paint schemes on box cars have
been produced by AM, PRS, SHS, and &%$#@ Train Stuff kits (unpainted,
but with decals). While the Pacemaker paint schemes are more-or-less
correct, the cars are not necessarily correct in all cases.

Here is another possible explanation for the 'near enough is good
enough' mindset: Those with extreme interest in rivets and
prototypical authenticity do not, as a general rule, have large
layouts. Those of us with sizeable layouts are forced to make lots
of compromises simply in order to get their layout to a state of near
completion before they pass on to the great roundhouse in the sky.
Thus, the willingness to compromise on details is much greater among
those who actually build and operate layouts when compared to those
who only collect fine perfect models. Nothing wrong with either
approach to the hobby, but certainly a different emphasis on what is
important to an individual.

I am sure there are some exceptions to that generalization, but I
think is has a ring of truth for many of us.

Cheers....Ed L.
