> When Sam Powell decided to start a new S-scale layout, he (snip)
investigated all available scale turnouts. His conclusion? All of
the available options had enough flaws or required almost as much
work to debug and install as building turnouts from scratch.

For what it is worth, I would agree with Sam's conclusion. The
existing options are OK for a true blue craftsman, but not so
attractive to someone new to the hobby or with less-than-craftsman
skills.

Regarding getting it done, if you want Shinohara to become involved,
you might as well pick up the phone and talk with Don Heimburger. I
believe Don has an exclusive distribution agreement with Shinohara
for the entire United States. If this is correct, there is no way a
Shinohara turnout will get produced or sold in this country without
Don's participation.

If a non-Shinohara product is acceptable, then you can go to any
manufacturer and start discussions. Since SHS, River Raisin, BTS,
RailMaster, Des Plaines Hobbies, etc. all have offshore contacts,
maybe a company in China, Korea, New Zealand, etc. could be enticed
to make a RTR scale S turnout. Worth asking about, I would think, if
you have some cash to spare. After all, someone has to pay for it.

Regarding NASG's involvement, Sam McCoy would be the logical person
to ask. This project might be a tough sell, but unless someone
starts the ball rolling by asking, it will never get started. Gotta
start somewhere in addition to sending electrons to Yahoo Groups.
Sam does have a telephone.

Good luck...Ed L.
