By mistake I sent my response to two of the respondents.
1. The number of modelers in S scale is apparently small, and supporting a
magazine is difficult and those who have tried publishing have discovered.
2. One possibility is to persuade Don Heimburger to devote ONE entire issue per
year to S scale. He has the knowledge of publishing and could do it. Perhaps
some have already approached him about this. Assuming he would agree, then
those of us out here discussing the matter would have to write publishable
articles or articles that he and his editorial staff could revise without major
time on task. When I say ONE issue devoted to scale, I do not mean that he
would refrain from advertising hi-rail products. That could hardly be
offensive, could it? That approach would give us scale modelers one issue that
had articles of interest to us.
3. A third possibility would be to produce an internet journal much like the
Proto 48 journal for O scale. I do not believe that one can find this at any
newsstand. Such a venture would require one of us knowledgeable in layout and
so on to set this up. Initially, it would possibly be only once or twice a
year. It would not be published until a sufficient number of articles came in.
4. As for a hard copy journal focused on S scale, that seems a remote dream
because others have tried it and could not make it work. The failure does not
lie with them but with the market.
