All you need is a URL and a web host to get a site up and running.
It's been getting cheaper all the time to acquire these because of
competition. I recently leased two sites from Yahoo Small Business for
my trains and my church. The fee is only $11.95 per month for each of
them. It includes a great tool for creating and maintaining the site
called "Yahoo Site Builder".
I agree that lots and lots of pictures would be great to have. Since
most people now have high-speed internet, the loading isn't as slow as
it used to be and it would really sell our scale well, especially with
all the modeling talent that we have. Scale-only would mean just that,
so that giant switches or couplers would never be an issue.
Now that I took care of the easy part, now comes the hard part:
getting people to contribute to it.
