The pig flat rebuilding program started after the NS merger in 1982, IIRC.
The cars were common throughout the 90s and can still be seen in higher
traffic areas than where I am now (we get VERY FEW pigs or auto racks thru
Asheville; most go north/south on either side of us). There may have also
been 2 series of flats. I remember seeing 150001, the 2nd one built, then
not long after 151000. There was not enough time elapsed to have built 1000
of 'em so I'm thinking a design change caused a skip in consecutive numbers.
Only a check in an ORER will prove that.
