For the first time last fall I had an opportunity to see the SHS 2-8-0
locomotives close up at the NMRA show in Detroit. They are a beautiful piece
of work. I have decided to save up for one but have a few questions:

1. If I am able to purchase one, it would be for a Chicago Great Western or
M&StL prototype.

2. One significant difference in the SHS locomotive and the prototypes on
either railroad is the tender. The SHS tender is just too small. The tenders
on the Consolidation types of either road had high sides to increase coal
capacity. All of the M&StL Consolidation tenders I have seen have the high
sides, and some of the G4 class of CGW do as well.

3. Since the SHS tender is plastic, could one build up the sides? I assume so,
but I don't know how permanent whatever is in there is.

4. Could one trade out--after purchase obviously--the small tender for a tender
from an AF Pacific type locomotive? The AF tenders are very close to what the
CGW had on its G4 class Consolidations.

Any advice out there.

Tom
