Hi all, When I started in S, John Bortz was the only supplier of couplers that were HO, but reworked to use in S Scale. They were fairly reliable and i believe pretty close to the right size for S. In a pinch I used the standard HO couplers, mounted at the proper height for S scale with no problems.
When the Kadee 02s came out I converted, accepting the oversize appearance because of the reliability in coupling and uncoupling. I have never found mounting the 802s to be any more of a problem then the HO KDs. Some cars required more alterations then others, but that's the nature of modeling in S. Eventually, all of John Bortz's reworked HO KDs fell apart or just weren't reliable and I have since replaced them with 802s. I purchaced a couple of pair of Sargents when they first came out. It's a nice concept but they were unreliable and awkward to couple and uncouple, not to mention the assembly time involved. I just thought I'd add my experiences to the discussion. Thanks, Dave PS Lookimg for some used equipment to mount your couplers of choice - try (http://www.imlaytrains.com) ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
