J&L had only five cars of the type imported by NWSL. All were silver (albeit
dirty) with black lettering. See for example page 318 in the 1940 Car Builders
Cyclopedia. J&L also had many more tank cars of a somewhat different style
that were black with white lettering. Champ offered decals for both cars in HO
and S.

As a principal in the NWSL J&L tank car project, I can tell you why we chose
the car. It is complex enough such that it's unlikely that a modeler would
ever build one; most modelers would find its appearance attractive; and it's
certainly not ubiquitous, so the presence of just one on a model railroad would
not evoke the comment "why is there only one?"
