Mr Eager sez I can forward this. Since the Evans RBL is one of the few
relatively modern cars we have in S, I thought it might be interesting. ---

Plywood is not lumber, it's a composite laminate that has to be
protected from moisture. These RBLs, with their plug doors were
exceptionally water-tight and their centered 16ft door opening made
them highly attractive for loading/unloading plywood and millwork. As
others have pointed out, the Evergreen and WP double plug cars were
assigned to Klamath Falls for plywood and perhaps paper pulp loading
(hence the vents on some).

Many of the Evans 52ft dbl plug Blue Island reefers were leased to
plywood, milllwork and paper pulp manufacturers: Astoria Plywood,
Bend Millworks, Boise Cascade, Coin Millwork, Fort Vancouver Plywood,
Georgia Pacific, Louisiana Pacific, Mountain Pine Lumber, Multnomah
Plywood, Plywood Marketing Associates' many associated producers,
Northwest Hardwoods, St Regis, Simpson Timber, States Veneer,
Quinault Pacific, Willamette Industries, and Weyerhaeuser, for example.
