All --
I also agree completely with Brooks (and String-Bob). I have not tried to get
anything published in MR because I don't find MR content to be consistent with
my interests. That said, I have had articles published in deveral pubs over
recent years. I used to submit material to RMC with some success, but after
RMC
editor Bill Schaumburg invited me to write an article for him on constructing
catenary, he sat on it for four years and then had an underling return it with
a
rejection form letter. (It subsequently ran in the NMRA's "Scale Rails.")
You have to take Brooks' suggestions to heart. First of all, for an S article
to be printed, someone has to WRITE it! Don't expect that to be a magazine
staffer. It has to be US GUYS.
Secondly, pick a topic that appeals across the scales. My own
recently-published articles include mirrors as scenic elements, model railroad
operation, yard throat design, and (upcoming in "NMRA Magazine") layout height
considerations. All my photos are S scale. Most of the photo captions
describe
the S scale items depicted. But the text and images relate to the
scale-independent topic.
There is no better way to publicize S scale, as opposed to inconsistent, anemic
organizational efforts that shall remain nameless.
