Actually John, you are one of the younger guys around. Our S scale club
probably has only one member in your age range with our oldest being
83! The all scale club that I'm president of is probably very similar
in nature although we might have a couple in their late 30's, but we
also have about 100 members. So that's still not a good sign.
I think there are many reasons besides just the video games and lack of
construction toys. Our society has become much more mobile with
families moving several times, the increased number of different
cultures who weren't exposed to trains like we were and to some degree
the movement to areas where basements aren't common (it's pretty pricey
to build a large addition to a typical house even if you have the yard
space.
My fear is that we've grown a bit in the past 20 years but there comes a
time when guys our age will start running off a cliff just like the WWII
generation--so hold on John Armstrong.
