I ordered and received an item from Model Tech - one of their S scale
flats. It came shipped in an "over-long" package- actually two USPS shipping
package put together. This apparently was done to protect the one-piece 16"
long flat. That may have something to do with the cost.

BTW - I'm still building the kit. The instructions are a bit "breezy" -
perhaps the assumption is that the kit will only be ordered by experience
modelers - but so far the kit has lived up to expectations. I think it's
going to fit nicely into a gap on my layout. I'm pleased enough to be
thinking of ordering the companion kit to completely "close the gap".

Following up my earlier post, I went to the Model Tech Studios web site and
put about $100 worth of kits and details into my shopping basket, but was
stunned by a $23 shipping charge - three or four times what I would
consider reasonable. I've asked them to review this before I place my order.
