  I have a GM&O 40' box car constructed from a PermaBilt kit. I'm not
finished yet and am using different ends. I have thought of striping the silk
screened sides and using a GM&O decal from Jerry Glow and then adding Archer
rivet decals in places where some rivets should be visible and after that
repainting and decaling the car. Have you ever tried that?

NOTE: Joe Visintine, an avid G.M.& O. modeler had freight car decals made.
He may still have some for sale.

I have not tried the Archer rivets but do intend to soon. I have an
American Models 40 foot boxcar that will make a very nice U.P. B-50-41. They
were built in 1950 which is my cut off date. I need to add the alernate rivet
rows to the car and Archer is what i intend to try and do.
Some of the Perma Built cars had horrible paint failure on the pre painted
and printed sides. I have a 50 foot Sante Fe reefer and I am currently trying
to salvage the painted sides. I've oversprayed them with Krylon Matte finish
and am going to do a color match for touch up of the yellow today.
In the past I've used the leftover ends from 50' PRS cars that I've cut the
sides off to make D&RGW 12 panel sided 40 foot cars. I attached these to a
Perma Built 40' car along with the PRS 50' roof that I shortened. I also used
other parts, ladders and brake gear parts.
I know I sold a Perma Built car that I did that too to Ed L. and he
thought it was a PRS car the whole time. Looking back I now realize that it was
stupid of me to sell that car but I just keep doing stupid things anyway
