The morning began in Terminal District. The Turn was made up on the passing
track, but hung out on the North Tail at the West end, So, for the first move,
the switch crew, using RS-1 #30, pulled caboose #108 from the caboose track and
left it in the Engine Pocket, to avoid having it boxed in when they pulled the
cars to clear the North Tail so they could add the #108 caboose. This is
because the outbound train would be fouling the "puzzle switch", blocking
access to the caboose track.

The next move was to pull the inbound mail train from Coach 1 track and adding
the RPO and one mail storage car from that train to the coaches on Coach 2,
which made up the Eastbound passenger train #2. After putting the remaining
mail storage cars from the mail train back on Coach 1, the switch engine held
on to the combine from the rear of the mail train and to the other end of the
yard. Crossing over to the Back Lead, the engine with the combine backed onto
caboose #108 in the Engine Pocket, sandwiching the switch engine with the
combine on the West end of the locomotive, and the caboose on the East end.

Moving down the Back Lead, they proceeded out onto the North Tail and against
the rear of the outbound freight train and coupled #108 to it. After that, the
yard engine and the combine proceeded up the Back Lead and crossed over to the
South Main, and headed for the Coach Lead to turn the combine on the turntable.
That completed, it took the combine back up the South Main, left it there while
it grabbed the two mail storage cars and coupled onto it. After shoving the
cars back into Coach 1, the mail train only needed the RPO and baggage car from
inbound Passenger train #1 to be complete.

The engines were ready at the roundhouse, and everything was in place (or
"staged", as model railroaders say) to begin the day's operations.
