Bill Lane's "Container" project caused quite a lot of email action over the
weekend.

All because no one was sure of where the Containers came from or did it
matter!

Well, the Containers came from Ed Loizeaux who together with Stan Furmanak,
spent a lot of time designing and then having the molds made. You see, Stan
and Ed made a lot of rolling stock, especially if it was different than the
regular run-of-the-mill railroad equipment.

Ed would gather up the materials needed and send it to Stan. Stan would
build the models, keeping at least one for himself.

Stan built a lot of models for many of you out there on this reading this
now. Wally Collin's, Gale Hall and many others.

Let's face it, Stan a was an exemplary modeler and he loved modeling it.

Stan was severely physically handicapped as many of you know. He was
looking for a hobby that would suit his physical needs, building models was
one of the suitable hobbies.

I write Church history and was searching for our founding Pastor Simon Noll.
[1843] Stan Furmanak was computer master at Lebanon Valley College's
library. I was referred to Stan for information, as the United Brethren in
Christ Church founded LVC in 1863, and they thought he could be of help to
me in my research, he was.

Stan also recognized my name and said that he was interested in model
railroading, especially S scale.

So, I took Stan to one of our Lehigh Valley Model Railroad Club's meetings
and Stan was off, the rest is history now as Stan passed away last year.

Well it seems this container problem came up several days ago and that Stan
was given credit for the Containers. Actually, Stan built the containers,
but Ed Loizeaux put all his time/money in the manufacture of such containers
and Ed still has the molds.

In the end, all that Ed wanted was for the record to set straight, they are
not Stan's Containers, but Ed Loizeaux's.

Over the years, Ed has spent a lot of his money getting us things that he
has never gotten credit for. Ed has given S Scale more publicity in national
Hobby magazines than any of us. Ed spent a load of bucks with the publishing
of the original S Scale Modeling Guide, and we didn't support it either. Now
Ed is embarked on the NASG Convention in Sacramento, California, are we
backing him up?

I must admit, I don't know presently who does more for S scale than Ed
Loizeaux.

I think at time's we forget this is a hobby, if I may dare, may I suggest
that Ed Loizeaux be taken off of moderation on this Yahoo S-Scale list, and
for anyone who wants to make S Scale Containers, let them, before a
manufacturer in another scale does it and we buy those and modify them.

After all ... Isn't that what we S scaler's like to do?

Have a great day,

Bill (FRaley)
