Guys,

For once it seems that S has something not available in HO.

See www.thesupplycar.net. for the complete CZ train set.

Thanks,

Major issues. The dome coaches, dome lounge, dome obs are all not

available in plastic, and rarely in brass. The dome coaches are not

like those of the CZ (Broadway Limited) or the TCZ (Con-Cor). The

baggage, 6-5s & Slumbercoaches are about the only cars available that

would work relatively easily ("relatively" being key here). The

10-6s are not available, and are more like the C&O 10-6s made by

Pullman (in floor arrangement) than the Budd 10-6s that are available

(though if you get a PACIFIC Budd 10-6 and add skirting and slight

window mods, you come close to the 10-6s used in the Zephyr pool

along with the CZ 10-6s of 1952).

The diner has a different kitchen window & road name / train name

"boards" (as do all the cars). The dome/dorm/buffet/lounge isn't all

that similar to the CZ version. Of course, the dome obs is unlike

anything produced thus far in plastic. No one has made the flat top

cars in plastic, the 16 section/coach Broadway cars have different

windows & the other issues explained earlier. No one has made a

similar BME in plastic, as far as I know.

Having said all that, there were more than a few times that a CZ car

substituted for the baggage, diner, dome coach, 10-6s, 6-5s and the

flat top coach (post 1961). Having ALL of them in the train would

not be plausible, but having one or two - even three - might work

fine. But...making the obs is a tough row.

Oh - NKP Car does have some of the cars available as kits.

As the last complete train ordered for US long distance (not

commuter) routes (prior to Amtrak), and one that was successful up to

Amtrak, it would be a good train to model. There were operational

changes (in terms of the obs and the dorm/lounge) that modified

consists. It was one of the more interesting D&RGW trains as well

(either as a stand alone or as part of the Royal Gorge). The

problem is, like some people on this list, many manufacturers see a

stainless train as "just another silver train" and see no point in

making another (I think this concept hurts SE modelers as

well). The AT&SF cars are different in terms of outline. The Super

Chief is the only stainless offered (in theory) by Walthers.

I would love to see some other trains in this genre as well, the

Sunset Limited, the RGZ, a few SE trains, etc. I don't know if there

is enough call for them given the "just another silver train" theory.

I guess I should be complete - although you suggested the domes, that

doesn't necessarily preclude the earlier version of the DZ, but that

is a highly unlikely possibility, and, even tougher to put together.

(except in brass).
