I only had the pleasure of meeting Chuck once: About 40 years ago, when I was
a kid at the University of Maryland, Chuck and his wife were in town and wanted
to see the Washington rail scene. Ed Schumacher asked me if I would take them
on a tour, and we spent a very enjoyable day together. I remember taking Chuck
to New Carrollton, MD to experience up close and personal a non-stop Metroliner
passing by the temporary wooden platforms -- you were sure that the entire
station was going to be sucked away by the Metroliner!
We finished up the day witnessing the daily departure of B&O's Capitol
Limited headed for Chicago, making its suburban stop at Silver Spring, MD.

A very enjoyable day spent with a true gentleman.
