Definitely different weights by volume. Used to help with wheat season,
moving drivers around to get trucks loaded by farmers to be taken to the
mill. Truck was weighed, grain unloaded to bins, almost immediately then went
into usually box cars, over the grain boards or the heavy paper. Truck
re-weighed as soon as empty and sent back to another field, ALWAYS around
July 4th, almost around the clock. When switching had to be done a 46 DODGE
Power Wagon and later a late 60's "Corn-Binder" 1 1/2 ton pickup were
used, BOTH 4 wheel drive, obviously. The Corn-Binder was much like mine of
the
same era, IF you wanted to listen to the radio, you pulled off the road,
shut the truck down and turned the radio on. Mine was a 1 ton, rode the best
with 3 to 4 tons ON it. WOULD probably pull a house off of it's
foundation if asked to.
The mill is now a "Stove" dealership. The last mill owner was able to
destroy the business in WEEKS after buying it.

Hi All,
One of the best clinics I ever attended was at the St. Paul NASG. Across
the highway from the hotel (Yes. The hotel that the restaurant was closed
by the health department.) there was a museum of Minnesota history or
something. They had a 40' boxcar as a display. Jeff English took us over
there
and we crawled all around it while Jeff pointed out details we should know
about. The one detail I remember was the interior being marked at
different heights for the different types of grain. Apparently different
grains
have different densities. Very interesting.
