Hi Bob, It's a complex problem. I think many folk feel that if they've spent
the money to buy the product they deserve to use the manufacturer's photos to
show people what they bought? ( or what they have if re-selling it) Pissing off
customers by not letting them use their photos would not be good customer
service and might lead to guys not buying that companies product anymore and as
a bonus passing around photos of the product might even be looked at as free
advertising by the companies? Seems like the issue would be solved if the
companies just paid the photographer for unlimited use of the photos with the
understanding that they could be used by anyone interested in the product?
The photo of the NASG car is a different matter as they are not selling an HO
intermountain car so even if Intermountain says it's ok most modelers would
think not. They should put in a disclaimer that it's an HO car for illustration
purposes only or just get someone to decal up a sample of the car they actually
plan to use.
