Maybe our moderators should insist that anyone that wants to find out what the "S Scale Fraternity" is about should not be allowed to join this apparently negative email group before attending some live group of S Scalers for six months. Just trying to be ironic - Michael makes good points. We insiders need to listen carefully to outsiders and think about how this Yahoo group is becoming many people's first contact with S Scalers, and how that should influence our form of speech.
I don't agree that a plethora of modern S scale models would bring young people into S Scale. Unless the number of units produced approaches HO manufacturing, it is still going to cost nearly $1000 to assemble one short train, compared to what, $150 for HO? If I want to get a kid hooked on model railroading, I'd go straight for HO. I still think our best bet is to implant the idea that after you've got started in HO, you can graduate to a more advanced modeling in S Scale. You know, appeal to people's pride and ego. -Michael Eldridge -Current project: small office building lighting and interior --- In [email protected], "Michael" <wsmwrr@...> wrote: > Between reading the answers to my question and reading the entire thread from BTS's "modern go away" thing, it's no wonder this scale has been stagnant. You guys can't get out of your own way! S Scale is the PERFECT SIZE! ... I am really beginning to think that you guys don't want the scale to advance. This is ridiculous! > .... You have to remember something folks, the future of any scale in this hobby is the kids that aren't yet into the hobby. Anyone here tell me right now why a kid would want to get into S Scale? Anyone? Anyone? That's what I thought. Unless the more modern things that kids today are seeing, are available to them, they aren't going to be interested in the scale at all. That's why HO is kicking everyone's ass! ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
