I live on the AMTRAK Harrisburg Main Line ( Keystone Main ), frequently see
NS switching cars for the Strasburg RR on the "team or house" track in my
back yard, at Leaman Junction. NS is using GP-38's or something close on
a daily basis. Strasburg usually uses their SW-7 ( former NYC ) to move
the cars from Leaman Place to Strasburg & back. They have partially
retired GE 44 tonner Strasburg 33, nee PRR 9331 ( back in Pennsy colors and
number now. ) Occasionally a steam loco picks up or drops off a few cars.
AMTRAK runs 2 Genesis ( Mudrocket ) diesels thru every day, the East &
West Pennsylvanian, frequently passing in the back yard at 1345 hrs,
Eastbound can be later than westbound because of running on NS, while Westbound
runs on AMTRAK. ( NS ends at western portal of Harrisburg Station and then
continues east on the former READING trackage. ) . The rest of the AMTRAK
consists are normally 5 cars pushed or pulled by AEM-7's.
My point is that seldom seen here is power heavier than GP 38's, unless I
venture to Rockville Bridge area, or the Lebanon Valley Branch area, then
the show is O N.
