I wondered about the cost of the wheelsets as well, but at some point towards
the end of the video, I got the impression that they would be sent no charge to
those who sent in their requests with receipts.
I agree that not needing the complex and expensive TMCC controls is a real deal
breaker for me. Had Lionel chosen to release a unit without these items at a
more reasonable price point, I would have considered it, but I can't justify
spending $400 on a locomotive that I will have to gut and rebuild to run on my
DC or DCC layout. A similar situation exists with their 2-8-2.
Another shortcoming with the U33c not yet mentioned is the typical Lionel/MTH
free-floating pilots that swing to allow operation on sharp curves. On a scale
loco, these pilots look terrible. There needs to be a way for a scale modeler
to attach the pilot to the frame so that it doesn't swivel, and will be true to
the appearance of the prototype.
