I have posted a couple of fotos of Flyer cars that I have up 'scaled'. I have
doctored evrything but the streamline cars. I typically grind off the truck
mounting bosses or replace the floors to get the proper truck to end of car
spacing. I make up my own truck bolsters from .060 x .25 styrene strip.
The tank car is a Flyer three dome, most of the walk boards were removed with
new strene replacements and Grandt line brake wheel, and brake details added.
The gon is pretty straight forward. I removed the internal bracing, sanded off
the end detail and replaced it with new styrene pieces, and addded preformed
grabs all around. The caboose is a model of several Lehigh and New England
cabs built prior to their purchasing the classic Reading cabs (with virtually
the same dimensions). I started by throwing away the floor and sanding off all
side detail and replacing the siding with scribbed styrene, new end rail and
Taurus ladders complete the mods. The combine was a junker I bought for $15
including trucks. I made the cosmetic repairs necessary added some roof detail
and new steps. I used the original trucks but changed out the wheels on the
Flyer axels to scale. The lettering is some rub on lettering for the combine
but the other cars use CDS transfers.
