While powdered graphite is good for lubrication, it does have one serious
drawback -- it creeps! When used on axle tips, it has been known to creep up
and over the wheel's plastic insulation all the way to the metal wheel. Since
powdered graphite is also electrically conductive, the insulated wheel is then
in electrical contact with the axle and the uninsulated wheel and a short
circuit results. Finding the short and cleaning off the graphite will not make
you a happy man. Unless you have some very unusual circumstances, it would
usually be better to use a good quality light machine oil. Various brands are
at your local hobby shop.
Good luck....Ed L.
