For the 50's you need more like a tow motor than a fork lift...ya had people to 
do that job...take it off the cart and stack it in the car....take it out of 
the car and stack it on the cart...Tomica years ago made some air line items 
like tow motor and baggage carts and containers....shoot I bet a Ford 8 N 
tractor would work around the warehouse pulling carts..

  Does anyone know of nice 1950s era forklifts that are not a kit or "Hot
