For modernistas only.

I see this Rail Pro is made by Ring Engineering, so while the vogue of the
week is to bash on them, here's my experience with another of their
products - the end-of-train device (FRED).

They advertise it as coming with an HO truck for electrical pick-up, which,
even in HO, makes it less than desireable for people still in good old DC.

But ask them to just sell the circuit board and the device itself (glued to
a KD coupler) and "No, that would be dangerous." ???

But I do have three cars with EOT/FRED devices, and two of the devices are
from Ring Engineering. One boxcar has the HO truck & circuit board inside
it with a switch, connected to a 9V battery. One car has the same, but I
was able to get the circuit board seperated from the truck, and one car is
non-Ring, with a component built (thanks DE) board.

The device you see on the coupler is close enough, even if it is true HO,
and flashes just the way it should. But Ring Engineering certainly could be
more cooperative.
