Well my 2ยข

Either;
You have DCC and a computer (or paper tables) with much simpler wiring
OR
You have 'straight' DC with all those route blocks etc and a memory night mare.

As for sound;
With DCC it is in the decoder so contained within the locomotive
WITH DC you have to send it thru the rails and wire your loco with appropriate electron stuff
OR
You have it under the layout and have to have more little switches to make the sound follow the train.

Maybe String Bob has the right idea??

Lately after reading the list, I find that perhaps a model railroader has to have a degree in electronics, especially those with DCC. Many of the responders to that type question really does possess a degree in electrical engineering. I would imagine that is a good thing for all of us, otherwise how would we find a solution to running our trains? At age 82, I'll stay with my DC, my many electrical blocks and switches and be happy!
