Those who say that the ACE bolsters are old technology are absolutely correct.
And I am all for accurate parts, but I am also for getting things done. I have
a few ACE bolsters--the heavy kind and the delrin [or whatever stuff that is]
kind as well. I draw on them from time to time because I do not have anything
to replace them.

And, yes, I know of what is apparently a small supply of more accurate
bolsters, but I believe the person who has them, though generous and helpful,
needs them for projects of his own. And, yes, I am still making conversions
from AF gons: a C&NW heavy duty gon, an ACL K9, and a CGW 1952 PS 50' gon, a
product of splicing parts of two AF gons. I plan at least a PRR gon, a W&LE
gon, and a DSS&A gon.

Getting things done means not waiting for perfection. I appreciate the PRS
underbody parts I have stashed away, but they, too, have been criticized.
Unless the perfectionistic government underframe inspectors show up and demand
to examine the undebodies of my gons, I'll make it through until I shuffle off
my mortal coil, as Shakespeare's Hamlet put it.

I am very appreciative of and thankful for the highly accurate parts that have
come along: Pieter's refrigerator car roofs, Bob McCarthy's freight and
passenger cars, and the surprises that come from DPH, all wonderful, but
sometimes the parts I need are just not available. Given that reality, I'll
make do with what I have.

On the other hand... what is the cause of the lack of conversion activity?
Speaking only for myself, most of my projects (such as my AF Gon to ACL
K9/10/10A conversion) are on hold (or progressing VERY slowly) due to a lack of
"GOOD" products. I hear all the negative remarks that are being made about the
old ACE parts and I think I would rather not use such a product, opting rather
to wait until something new and better coes out.

So is there a real lack of interest in something new, or is there a real lack
of interest in the old parts... and which reality is causing the freeze on
conversions?

I don't think I have to say where I stand... but (naturally) I will... out with
the old, in with the new-and-improved.

I agree with Bill, I'd tend to doubt that there is enough conversion activity
now to warrant a new product.

As long as S dealers still have new old stock I don’t see why there would be a
need to made new. I also don’t see at least on this list much converting A F to
scale now with all of the great plastic cars out. However, is if someone is so
motivated these bolsters would be very easy to make in Solidworks.
