At this point in S scale, if someone wants to run lots of steam (especially big steam) and maybe doesn't have the finances for brass or experience scratchbuilding, I would refer them to Brooks Stover's web site and suggest hi-rail with scale couplers. Virtually all recent S steam has been available hi-rail, and only a small subset offered with scale flanges. It was noted earlier in this thread that making many of these models operable on scale track is more complex than turning the flanges down on the old Rivirossi steam in HO.
