What I vaguely remember is the dark green is at least as dark as Southern
Crescent passenger green, which seems to be the same as M&StL green as used on
that one group of their boxcars. DJE

Tom, Oh, those early experiments trying to make something we recongnized and
liked! I won't mention my first attempt at weathering.

I once owned a pair of the CNW FA-A units. The colors were correct for the
second paint scheme, but the green didn't cover the side grill area and I think
the end was supposed to be green also. I repainted mine, but later sold them.
I would have favored the earlier scheme.

There are several paint and lettering schemes that AM could/should be
doing---SP&S, SOO, GM&O come to mind in my part of the country. I think our
friends from the North country could use them too.

    Bob,

Right! The C&NW had a four unit set of FA-2 units, and I recall that
S-Helper which literally "helped" AM get its ALCO FA-2 models into the market
place, offered a set of C&NW units correctly painted. The C&NW also fielded one
DL-109. In my teenage naivete I painted my AF PA with C&NW colors, not knowing
I should test for crazing. And, sure enough, my AF PA looked horrible. I had
0-gauge decals to reletter the unit. An awful experiment!
