I have enough S scale equipment to operate prabably my lifetime. My only concern would be repalcement parts for worn out SHS locos. But I can't see new S "scale wheel" people coming if they are say more modern HO modelers. Obviously a lot of people are happy with hi-rail and I believe it's a hobby to be enjoyed not a competition. But to draw younger S scale modelers in the future doesn't look promising. As to freight and passenger cars, if the model is scale switching out wheels or freight trucks is no problem. Perhaps MTH will be as scale oriented as SHS and that would be great. I can't see Lionel ever going scale wheels. Not in their genetics.
