A lot depends on how many cars you have or plan to have and how much time you have.
I have 91 freight cars from SHS and another 100+ from other manufacturers and am in phase one of the BIG ONE in my basement, so I really don't have the time to do anything more than put in the scale wheels, make sure they turn freely, and add KD couplers. Fortunately, SHS, S Scale America, AM, etc. look pretty good out of the box. When the layout gets operational, I'll start on some of the kits I have stockpiled - PRS, SMMW, etc.. Enjoy Paul Tenney
