I hope to have a lively, but friendly exchange on what we all think about
running boards (roof walks to some). The plastic ones for wood boards are OK,
in my opinion, but for Apex (metal grid) running boards plastic is not so good.
The etched offerings are not , in my opinion, any better. They are too thin and
the actual grid pattern looks "off" to me too. The roof is what we spend most
of our time looking at when we see our models, shouldn't they look as detailed
as the rest of a car? Could there not be a lost wax cast brass or injection
molded plastic closer to scale offering made? I had some HO tank cars at one
time that had the walkways injection molded plastic, in a grid pattern that
resembled Apex running boards very well but way too short and narrow of
sections.
I have no means to produce nor the knowledge of how to go about this. But I am
looking for others viewpoints on this oft negelected or comprimised detail. Oh
and I do want to know about this in S Scale.
