Bruce, I agree 100% on the thinness of the etched running boards. There were
some messages in the past on the Steam Era Freight Car list
where modelers in HO scale used thin square strips of styrene along the outer
edge along the length of their etched running boards to make them look beefier.
A possibility anyway.
Kaslo Shops PS-1 had an etched stainless steel r.b. that was to be folded
over on itself creating a double thickness, much nicer looking!
I've found some plastic material that is see through walkway designed for a
platform walkway in HO scale from Tichy. It is not perfect but replicates the
Apex style and can be narrowed to match an S scale r.b. width. I'll try to
attach a pic, if that doesn't work I'll just post it to the photos section
under plastic running boards.
I agree with Trevor on the PRS plastic "for wood" running boards, not bad
but the laterals leave a lot to be desired with the short boards and the
supports on the outside when they should be underneath.
Besides wood looks best to duplicate "wood"!
