That's what happened at my LHS when I picked my Y3 up. If it didn't happen, I
wouldn't have reported it. I haven't heard of any other problems so far

The orange module is a Legacy Command Control thing. Currently, the Y3 will
run on straight AC, Lionel's older TMCC system or Legacy

No, the Y3 won't run on DC. The electronics would have to be removed to run on
DC.
The SD70ACe will be the first Lionel/American Flyer locomotive that will
operate on AC, TMCC/Legacy, DC or DCC out of the box.
The Y3 won't run on code 100 track, either. It is a HiRail model.

A announcement of a possible scale wheel conversion is a recent development.
I was surprised to see Lionel CTO's posting about it. You know as much as I
know right now.

I believe you're confusing the Challenger with the Big Boy. The Big Boy was
over-sized and used former K-Line tooling designed to make an O27 Big Boy.
The Challenger was made with all-new tooling. Nothing from the K-line Big Boy
was used in the making of the Challenger.
It appears Lionel is taking baby steps with the scale side of the market. We
should encourage this.
Scale wheels and the new DC/DCC compatibility is something they aren't doing
for the 2-rail O scale guys.
