I've had a couple of interested folks who would like to see a better
description of what I've been doing with my backward, detail lacking
American Models underframes. I've attached a photo that pretty much
tells the story--something about a photo and a 1000 words!

These were done just before the PRS's cars started coming down the
track. After they arrived I stopped making the conversions but had
several in progress--round tuits I guess! The finished boxcar used the
Stewart AB brake system plus a couple of parts from the Liberty set
(probably the bellcrank) and clevises/rods from a Grandt On3 set. The
car in progress shows a brass resivore from the BTS set back when they
were $4 per set. I have a stash of the Grandt AB sets to finish up the
remaining cars. I suppose if were to pick up the project again I would
consider using the Archer rivets to push the level of detail a bit
higher. I will make no claim as to the accuracy of the placement of the
Evergreen styrene strips, but overall it makes it look right. A couple
of years ago I sold a couple of the cars on Ebay, so considering the
time involved, they got a very good deal.
