Depends on what "good" means. MicroEngineering Mediums are very easy and fast to use, very large heads. MicroEngineering Smalls are easy and fast, pretty large heads, not consistent from spike to spike Walthers "Code 87" are about the size of ME Smalls, sharper point, longer shank, heads seem slightly smaller that ME Smalls (these are what I use) MicroEngineering Micros have small heads, they are short - barely make it all the way through a 7" thick tie, difficult to handle. Proto87 150% are the most accurate in appearance, difficult to handle, more expensive
If you are using Walthers, or ME small or medium, I recommend getting MicroMark's spiking plier. I thought this was silly until I tried one, but it is a really helpful tool. One caution - only use it for spiking, not even for removing or repositioning spikes. I've broken the tips off two of these tools so far. -Michael Eldridge --- In [email protected], "coalsmoker2194" wrote: > > About ready to start putting down track.
