Chris, The ME Micro Spikes look just like the spikes from a Kadee spiker when driven. They are not so hard to use with a little practice. I like to use them on very visible handspiked track that is adjacent to flex. They match the flex spike heads quite well. Of course, I only do the visible side of the rail!

Started with the ME micro spikes. They are not so much spikes as simply bent metal strips. Many/most did not have any kind of point at the end which made them difficult to insert into sugar pine or bass wood ties. Many, many, bent on their way in. I don't have enough time to pre-drill holes. We eventually switched to Walthers Code 87 spikes. Strong, pointy and easily inserted. Available at the local hobby shop for a reasonable price. The heads are largish but after you paint and weather the rail they match-up pretty well to the "spikes" on the Shinohara turnouts and flex track. They look large compared to the "spikes" on ME/Tomalco flex track. I would give them the nod for all but the most proto of track laying. Chris Borgmeyer
