Hi Rich --

Yes, I was disappointed with the V&O reefer, too. First off, Allen (sp?)
tried hard to capture the “normal” of railroading, and black reefers were not;
second, black reefers are self defeating, turning sunlight into heat, and this
is supposed to be an ice storage reefer. I did paint the roof a gun metal
grey and changed out the trucks to a more usual color. Anyhow, I would have
much prefe rred the typical BCR boxcar from the V&O...
I also agree with your assessment of the two Gordon Varney cars (why two?).
I did pass on the Armstrong Canandaigua Southern hoppers – too new for my
layout, and would have gotten several had they been done on AM 2 bay hoppers
(SHS hadn’t come out with theirs, yet). No understanding why they made some
of the choices that they did...
Have fun!

The NMRA did have a "Living Legends" series and another series honoring the
great model railroaders of the past. I bought most of them, G&D, AL&P, PURR,
Delta Lines, etc. Two had rather silly (Bikini & Hollywood and Firewater &
Kicking Horse) freelance roadnames and graphics, so I passed on those two.

Otherwise, the only one I was disappointed with was the V&O reefer. Whoever
heard of a black reefer with light gray trucks?
