Hi Jake -- Northwest Short Line makes S and Sn3 wheelsets in several versions and axle ends. Fred Rouse (S Scale Loco and Supply) is also making S wheelsets using stainless steel and both wheels insulated from the axle, a quite handy situation with many kinds of equipment. He also has a pretty good supply of detail parts and some interesting trucks for rolling stock. There are arch bar trucks available – check with Bill Lane of Lane’s Trains, but there have been other sources, too.
You an get a feel for what has been produced over the last many years by going to the NASG (Nat’l Assoc. of S Gaugers) website ( www.nasg.org ) and clicking on the products tab. You will be amazed at the variety of rolling stock that has been produced. Currently, American Models and Lionel are the two ready-to-run suppliers of standard gauge S rolling stock, unless you want to get into brass. River Raisin Models has a fair selection of new and used brass – their own line being of the very best quality from Boo Rim of Korea, but obviously limited in supply. If you click on the “Manufacturers” tab, you will find an impressive list of vendors that supply all kinds of products for S. There are several decal sources listed there. Des Plains Hobbies has a good supply of Microscale style decals. A call out for a particular piece of rolling stock on this list will probably get you more answers than you want, and there is always a pretty good used market that will net you almost anything if you are patient. Going to the various meets where S is featured will often turn up some really good stuff, too. (I just ended up with a brass SD-7 for less than half of the original price, not bad even though it needed some work to be done to the superstructure...) Lastly, you can look up the S scale SIG, and they have some interesting info there, too. Have fun! So is someone currently making S standard gauge arch Bar trucks? I saw somewhere that someone is converting Bachmann On30 trucks to S standard gauge. Who makes good wheelsets? NWSL, Others? Where would I look for S standard gauge decals? Thanks, Jake Johnson
