I am closely following this thread to see what techniques are suggested.

As you may know, I have a custom detailed and painted set of American Models 
PAs that were done by the late Lee Yeager, one of the best model 
builder/painters I have had the pleasure to meet.  We west coast guys held him 
in high reverence and his premature death was a big loss to the hobby.

My PAs are painted in the SP Daylight scheme and somehow Lee managed to paint 
the interior of the molded grill black and the frame in Daylight orange 
creating a wonderful 3D effect.  I have always wondered how he did this.
