All this banter about starter sets, all you need to do is look down in the boxes of old and semi-discarded stuff, and there you will find the ORIGINAL STARTER SETS, actually produced by AC Gilbert's American Flyer Crop, during its last failed gasps of air. Of course by now you all know what I mean, what could be a better starter set for the younger set, somewhat rugged, not valuable, but most important, S GAUGE and American Flyer at that, the 21165 and its following stable of pikemaster cars. These sets can be picked up readily on EBay all the time, somewhere in the range of $25-50. The beauty is that when they break, throw them out, or scrape them for some parts and replace them. They are durably constructed to handle playwear of the younger set, and Id be proud to have my little ones playing with these. Just to throw a little spin on all the previously mentioned thoughts. Oh, by the way, I have been called an American Flyer, AC Gilbert Purist, wonder where that label ever came from. Thanks for this forum, Tom Westhelle Oviedo, FL
