John, the early 293 was wired with a 5 conductor (4 pins plus a rivet) panel. Its tender had a four conductor black fabric wrapped wire harness ending in a four prong plug, plus a cloth covered "5th wire" .
The later 293 was direct wired to the tender with a four wire (black, green, and two gray) harness plus a black fifth wire". These wires were rubber? coated. Does your loco have a date stamped inside the boiler? There should be two screw holes in the back of the cab for mounting the panel. If there is no sign of wear in the threads, it might have been direct wired. There are other little variations that might help date the loco further.
