Lou, I use AM turnouts and have very few problems with the gap. I have a fix for the LTI AF power truck that lengthens it's pickup and will improve it's reliability at:

With some recent purchases of American Models sets I now have accumulated enough 'AM' track to do two loops. I've been looking at the 'AM' switches and they appear to have a long insulated gap at the frog of the switch. Does anyone on this list use 'AM' switches and operate 'LTI' built AF Diesel engines. If you do operate these engines, do you have a problem of losing power when going through the frog of this switch? Does any one manufacture a track pin to connect 'AM' track to 'AF' switches? My present layout I use Gargraves track with 'AF' switches. Lou S-Trains list sponsor: http://www.americanflyertrains.com All the Flyer you desire...books and accessories too!
