Gene, you are exactly right about the lack of S in train shops being a
problem. You were also right when you said that we all need to ask the
owners for more S. Maybe if they get enough requests from paying customers,
it will get their attention.

Your post reminded me of seeing the December issue of "Classic Toy Trains"
magazine. Near the front there was a full-page ad from S-Helper Service. A
few pages later there was another full-page ad with the heading "NASG and
S-Scale Today". This page was a grouping of ads from NASG and certain S
suppliers. IMHO, grouping all the ads on one page was a great idea which
really makes the point that new products are coming out in S.

Best of all was an article by Mark Edwards that illustrated how to build a
portable around-the-tree layout using foam board and S-Trax. It was a
creative idea for a very cool-looking small layout, and the article made me
want to go right out and build one. (Of course, the editors had to point
out in a sidebar that it could also be built with O gauge RealTrax, but so
what? The point about S was made.)

The individuals responsible for these ads/articles deserve our thanks for
helping to put S on the map.

Subject: [S-Trains] Availabilty of American Flyer

> It is no wonder there aren't more people into American Flyer and S gauge
in general. The past few weekends I went to a number of hobby stores
carrying trains. The walls were filled with Lionel. The shelves were filled
with other O and O-27 manufacturers. In two shops.....I saw ONE American
Flyer car. Being a part of Lionel...you'd think you would see at least a
moderate amount of cares etc on a shelf or something. How can anyone get
interested in S gauge and buy S gauge if they don't even see it? No...I
didn't ask the owner and I know I was wrong for that but I was really angry.
I will go back to them in the next weeks for other supplies etc.
