William,
You have probably opened Pandora's box. Perhaps it is because of the
many years of few factory replacement parts for AF (not true now, but "back
when", like the "dark days of 1975" parts were at a bit of a premium), but
AF guys seem to be most ingenious at finding something else to do what we
need done! This is not always a good thing, either!! ;-)
My wheel puller is a very crude-looking apparatus, made back when I had a
car restoration shop and all its tools (this may soon happen again, we have
some hopes) and is wood and metal brazed, welded and bolted together. It
works too! What I like about my tool is that it pulls the wheels from the
center, not the rim, so the plastic insulator isn't strained (much).
As to your question on smoke tubing, here's my solution, although it may be
as esoteric as genuine ACG tubing! I use player piano tracker bar tubing,
very thin, and I suspect the same place ACG got theirs! Check in the phone
book for a piano tuner! The little bit you'll need is almost nothing,
compared to what a piano takes! It is also very flexible too, but be careful
routing it around the field coil, that it doesn't get smashed, so the smoke
doesn't come out!
