Chris:
It sounds as if the wiring in your 302 tender has been switched, or
pick up wheels have been reversed, creating a short between the tender
and loco. The pick up wheels on the front set of trucks on the tender
should be on the right side. Also required is an insulation washer in the
draw bar between the loco and tender.
