The North Penn S Gaugers started in March of 1998.
At our first meeting we agreed to meet in members
homes on a monthly basis. At the first meeting
we agreed to build a modular layout with the club
owning the 4 corners and members building 4'
straight sections. Today our layout measures
16' x 24' with more modules being built. We show
our modular layout in at least 5 train shows
per year. Our layout is presently stored in one
member's basement between shows. We have
24 members and just agreed to have 10 official
in home meetings a year.

S Friends:

I'm curious as to how the various clubs out there handle their meeting
locations. Do they have a clubhouse, do they move around to different
member's houses, do they pay rent, do they get a donation of space, is
their layout permanently mounted, is their layout stored in pieces?
Stuff like that.

I thought it might generate some discussion and ideas if we share this
information. Jeff Madden do you think it might be worthy of an
article in the Dispatch?

For the record: the Rocky Mountain Hi-Railers in Boise, Idaho have a
donation of storage area for our portable layout from a local
government, and we can assemble the layout during a meeting to work on
it. We try to repay the donation by volunteering our layout for the
annual Depot celebration (City sponsored). We also meet occasionally at
members' homes to view a personal layout, have a clinic, watch videos,
etc. We would like to find an "angel" to donate a meeting area where we
can leave the layout assembled between meetings.

What do the rest of you do?

Thanks,
John Eichmann, Coordinator
