This is in response to the query by John Eichmann. Our club
organization is informal and has one officer, a treasurer, and no dues.
Our treasury is kept solvent by donations from some of the local train
club chapters who sponsor local train meets. Not a lot of money but are
needs are small now that we have club corner modules. We decide how to
spend the money by group concurrence. Two or three of us function as
the club coordinator. We try to get together at least once a month or
so, avoiding summer, in round robins at different members' homes.
General meetings are to disseminate S news, watch a train tape, play
with the host's trains, have show 'n tell, shoot the bull, etc. We
produce a newsletter when we have a business meeting, which is at
irregular intervals. We also have work sessions, roughly weekly, that
are more focused on a particular goal. The club's energy has always
focused on construction of modules to incorporate into our display
layout that we take to train shows to promote S model railroading.
Individual members are responsible for financial underwriting and
storing their own modules. We also have four club corner modules so
individuals need only bring the 2'x4' modules in their cars. We all
help with the construction phase (at least, the basic initial stuff).
We started about 12 years ago. We have 7 core members plus 2-3 marginal.
Some of us started out in AF, some in scale, about evenly divided. Our
interests range from collecting AF to scale operation. We are currently
expanding our layout to include yard modules, an engine house module,
and a pair of 2' long modules to expand the operating pit width by 2
feet. We are investigating whether we want to buy a MRC 312 sound
unit. The club does basically what the members decide they are
interested in. We have a website that I manage at:
http://www.trainweb.org/rasg/
If you visit it the newsletter may be out of date but otherwise it
should be OK.
Incidentally, the WNYSSA club was a Buffalo NY area spin off from our
club, started by Gregg Mummert and Ray Abbot.
